CranioSacral Therapy (CST) is a form of therapeutic touch developed by Dr. John Upledger (as well as other healing lineages). CranioSacral Therapy works with the nervous system to help it and the whole body relax and function better. The CranioSacral (CS) system includes: the skull and the sacrum (near your tailbone), the membranes and fluids that protect, cleanse and nourish the central nervous system, and a few structures that support and regulate the system.
A trained therapist can feel the subtle CranioSacral Rhythm (CSR) of the CS system. This rhythm can be felt throughout the entire body as it reverberates throughout the body. This is like a when one throws a pebble in a lake and the water reverberates out in a wave; or like the doctor can palpate your pulse in your ankle, even though your heart is in your chest.
The therapist uses a very light touch to assess and treat. The therapist starts with no more than 5 grams of pressure, the weight of a nickel. CS therapists assess where the body has restrictions and where the CSR is flowing well. The areas of restriction may then be helped to function better.
A primary concept of CranioSacral therapy is that the therapist facilitates the body’s own natural ability to heal. The therapist listens and offers support with her hands. The client and the therapist are co-facilitating the therapy, which is unlike other bodywork where the therapist is leading and manipulating the body. The CS therapist will use gentle pressure or traction to help the body release restrictions and continues to listen to the body's wisdom to facilitate other healing changes.
CranioSacral Therapy enhances the body’s functioning and helps alleviate pain and dysfunction. It encourages the body’s own natural healing mechanisms to dissipate the negative effects of stress on the body.
Sandy has the highest certification from the Upledger Foundation as CST-Diplomate
An advanced therapist is also trained to support emotional and energetic issues that may arise in the session. As the body is healing the client may remember an incident that was traumatic, be aware of a limiting belief, or be aware of an energetic or spiritual issue. Advanced therapists are trained to listen and support changes so that the client can release any of these concerns. This mind-body-soul connection is SomatoEmotional Release (SER).
Energetic awareness is as simple as being aware that we all have an electrical current that runs through our body, we all have a vibration in our body, or that we have had the experience of sensing someone looking at us even when we are not looking at them.
Advanced therapists are also trained to use imagery and dialogue to support the client’s inner wisdom so that healing is optimized.
Distance Healing Facilitation
Distance Healing Facilitation is a great way to connect and get the support you want for self-growth and healing progress. We can meet via the phone even if distance, illness, or other life circumstances limit your ability to be in my office. Sandy's presence holds a safe container for self-exploration and her “energetic hands” are available to support your body and presence too.
In a distance session, you may be able to more easily and accurately figure out the puzzle of an illness or situation you may be challenged by, and/or help clarify what feels foggy, unmanageable, or unhealable within your own internal system or in your life. During sessions, you can attend to the mind, body, and/or soul to help you gain clarity about challenges in your life, empower your self-healing and boundaries, and achieve more integration in many life areas.
Sandy utilizes all of the skills (or their essence) of her other services in these sessions. She has attended classes, had 4 years of mentoring, and is certified in distance healing facilitation. Sandy receives many of her own therapeutic sessions in this manner and finds them profoundly helpful.
Healing From the Core
Healing From the Core (HFC) was developed by Suzanne Scurlock, a long time Certified CranioSacral practitioner and Upledger teacher. HFC helps people learn how to be more present in their bodies, listen to their innate body wisdom, create and maintain better boundaries in life, and feel more energized.
The 5-Principles and Practices of HFC are core to grounding and healthy boundaries. They help individuals feel supported in life, listen to their internal guidance, and find guidance for self-care.
As a Certified Master Practitioner of HFC, Sandy utilizes these skills in her sessions with clients. She also teaches the principles and meditative explorations to individuals and groups.
Mindfullness and Meditation
Mindfullness and meditation are wonderful skills with many physical, emotional and spiritual benefits. Whether learning to be mindful of one's present moment or being led through a guided mediation, one can gain better clarity in life, calm the physical body, and/or embrace more compassion for oneself or for others. Sandy teaches these skills to individuals and in group settings.
